Things To Do In Brisbane This Long Weekend

If there’s one thing we all need more of, it’s long weekends! The Queen’s Birthday holiday on October 1st is our last long weekend for 2018, so make the most of it with our list of fabulous seasonal weekend activities.

Have a Picnic

Kick off your long weekend with a lazy picnic to soak up some sunshine. Why not escape the crowds and head out to one of the many beautiful national parks on Brisbane’s outskirts? Start the day by stocking up with a range of fresh fruit, cheese, bread, and salumi to make your own dream picnic platter!

Closet Clean Out

If you’re up for an early morning (like… 4am early) then gather together your unwanted books and homewares, clothes you bought with ambitions to slim down, and kitchen gear that you never use and set up shop! Any extra cash to spend on long weekend beers is worth the early start!

Dinner Party

What better time to enjoy the company of family and friends than on a long weekend? You have extra time to prepare, extra time to clean up, and extra time to recover… Catering at home doesn’t have to be a chore if you focus on fresh, seasonal foods that you can prepare in advance. Try tossing wedges of seasonal citrus, thinly shaved fennel, generous chunks of avocado, and slivers of shallots in a basic olive oil dressing for a super simple salad that’s sure to impress.

Gardening

Nothings says “long weekend” like getting down and dirty in the garden! Attend to those weeds you’ve been intentionally ignoring for months, fill in your sparse post-winter flower beds, or re-pot your indoor plant collection.

Visit the Markets

Why not check out one of the markets that call Brisbane MarketPlace home every weekend? The Saturday Fresh Market is the city’s largest produce market, with over 220 stalls selling quality local fruit and veggies, bakery goods, fresh-cut flowers, meat and poultry, deli items, and indoor and outdoor plants!

On Sundays, have a rummage for a hidden treasure at the Sunday Discovery Market, with over 380 stallholders selling collectable items, vintage and second-hand clothing, homewares, books and music, and bric-a-brac. Both markets operate between 6am and 12pm, so early risers and sleep-in-lovers can make the most of what’s on offer!

Start Planning Your Long Weekend

Whether you keep it low-key at home, or pack up and roll out, don’t waste your Monday holiday! Say “Happy Birthday, Queen,” while enjoying Brisbane’s amazing October weather among great company this long weekend.
