About the Market

BMP is adding to its long-running, successful Retail Markets by launching the first fully undercover outdoor market in Brisbane.

The Brisbane Night Market is expected to launch from late 2018/early 2019. This exciting new entry to Brisbane’s night life will be set under the massive Covered Unloading Area of the Brisbane Produce Market, which is located on the opposite side of Sherwood Road from the existing Saturday Fresh Market and Sunday Discovery Market at Rocklea.

The fully enclosed venue has already undergone structural preparation and is being transformed into a must-visit foodie hotspot and entertainment venue. The lighting, layout and offerings are designed to provide visitors with a multi-sensory experience. Visitors will be able to wander through arcades wafting with delicious foods, rummage through knick knacks, crafts and other artisan offerings, catch up with family and friends in the relaxed, dedicated seating hubs, watch the kids engage with a myriad of performers and activities, and enjoy a beer or wine while watching the region’s best upbeat performers on stage, all undercover.

Brisbane Night Market will trade every Friday from 4pm to 10pm, in what will be a spectacle of food theatre and amusement. It will be the perfect stop for commuters travelling home from work or school and the meeting place of choice for those in Brisbane’s South.

Undercover Central Trading Area Rocklea

Market trading area

Participating businesses will create a vibrant retail market hub right in the heart of the Brisbane Produce Market Covered Unloading Area, where just hours before, there was a cacophony of movement and colour as wholesalers, fruiterers and provedores went about their daily trading of fruit and vegetables from across Australia. The site is iconic. It will also be one of the few occasions that the general public is invited to step inside the Brisbane Produce Market arena.

The site is a massive covered space, with great access from Sherwood Road, ample parking for staff members and the thousands of expected attendees. It boasts a range of additional facilities unseen in other venues, such as upgraded amenities, LED TV screens, easily accessible electricity, night lighting and an experienced Markets Management team professionally administering the event. It’s a fully paved area, complete with CCTV and on-the-ground security patrols to assist in reducing issues and providing a sense of enjoyment and wellbeing for those attending.

In recent months, Brisbane Markets Limited has opened a multi-storey parking station next to the Brisbane Produce Market, expanding the capacity for parking on what is a site already use to accommodating up to 12,000 visitors to its weekend markets visitors. Those Saturday Fresh and Sunday Discovery visitors, locals and the 4,000 people who work and do business on the site daily are familiar with the location – 385 Sherwood Road, Rocklea – which carries with it a great pedigree of market trade and mystique, being the site of Queensland’s largest wholesale hub of fresh produce for about 55 years.

What will be there?

The focus of the Brisbane Night Market is on street food with wine, beer and an array of other beverages available onsite, complemented by seating hubs set aside for people to relax.

Local musical talent will perform on the main stage, while roving performers and entertainers will stroll the Market. Limited local arts and craft stalls will also feature. A kids’ zone will be established, with fun activities such as bouncy castles, amusement rides, face-painting and other interactive activities, along with a relaxed seating option for parents looking on. It will be a night out for the whole family.
